+ Life is actually going pretty well *knock on wood*

+ Aside from the fact that the company I work for is rapidly running out of money and it's a race to see if we can cure cancer before we go under. Okay, curing cancer may be overstating things, but that's what we joke about because we are working on a cancer drug. Whenever someone asks us how work is going we say--"we got six months to cure cancer to keep our jobs." It's good that we can joke about this.

+ I am still working on Mr Frosty. I alternate between hating it and thinking it may be okay to post and then I sit down and read it some more and decide I still want to tweak it.

+ More importantly, my heart and soul have been swallowed whole by Avatar: the Last Airbender. Jr (who's almost six now--how the hell did that happen!) is hooked on it and he had it on TV when I happened to be in the room. I started half-watching, then found myself sitting on the couch next to him, entranced. I'll be honest, for me, it's all about Prince Zuko. I--I have no words except I want him to do dirty dirty things with Katara and I feel guilty thinking these things while watching it with Jr. Well, at least a tiny bit guilty. :D

I didn't know I wanted Nick/Dylan until I read it. Now I'm like a desperate crack addict looking for another hit. Seriously, I'm bummed the season finale is this week. Why summer season? Why so short? Same with Rookie Blue. Yes, both shows are little corny at times, but I was really starting to get into them. *sigh*

I have no doubt whichever new show I get into this fall will probably be canceled half-way through.

The Great Pasta Debacle

I'm now back to mostly 10-finger typing, but it was tough going there for a while. Yes, I'm clumsy. I have been known to hit a door-frame or two while trying to walk through a doorway, but even I can't believe I was temporarily incapacitated by a piece of spaghetti.

So last Thursday night, it was just me at home with the kids. Hubby was working until 11pm. Evenings are hectic at the best of times and Jr ended up going to bed an hour late so that it was 9:30pm before I had two minutes to try and clean the kitchen. And it was a disaster.

I'm trying to wash a pot that I used to make CB's soup in (with tiny pieces of broken spaghetti in it that had dried and hardened on the side.) Jr starts yelling from his bed that he wants to call Daddy and I was exhausted and not paying attention and using my nails to try and pry off the hardened pasta...

( Cut for stupid but gross nail trauma )
Two days later I marched myself over to my doctor and got some antibiotics because yeah. It was gross.

The next day I got a cold. Sore throat, runny nose. The works. Stupid hospitals.

Two days after that, I realized that while the infection was on it's way to healing and the nail didn't look nearly as bad as I feared, and I could live with the cold symptoms, I now had another problem. I'm allergic to band aids. This actually isn't something new, but it's always been minor. I always say no thank-you to the nurse when I have to get a shot or blood test or whatever because they give me a rash. Well, not thinking, I had kept the band-aid on for more than 2 days and it had actually made my finger all swollen to the point that I couldn't bend the first knuckle at all.

I swear, I can't win.

Things look like they're almost back to normal now--well, my nail isn't going to be the same for a while I think, but it's functional and I can live with that. The swelling is 80% gone, I got one more day of antibiotics, and still got the sniffles but at least I can type again.

The morale of the story is always use a spoon to scrape off hardened pasta from a pot. So says my mother and the nice nurses at the hospital who tried not to laugh when I told them what the problem was.

Apple Tainting my iPhone Experience

I'm actually pretty angry about this, so I thought I would let any fellow Canadians out there in on some iPhone/Apple suckage.

I got my iPhone for Christmas and have loved it. There are plenty of apps, it's fun to use, it's been great. For my birthday, I asked my sister for an iTunes gift card because there are some apps out there I'd love to get. She gave me a card. I entered the code. The new balance showed up.

La La La...I've been downloading a few apps, but my balance didn't go down. I figured this was just a delay, I know sometimes the credit card isn't processed right away, but I've had the gift card balance for over a month now! So I email Apple and this is what they say:

I understand that you are are being asked to enter your credit card information to purchase items even though there is available store credit balance on your account.

I'm sorry, but you will not be able to purchase software, games, or applications with store credit or an iTunes Gift Card in Canada. Customers residing in Canada may only purchase software, games and applications using a credit card.

Your iTunes Gift Card balance can be applied towards purchases of all other types of content on the iTunes Store.

Excuse me? Why didn't it say this on the card?! And why, every time I click on the Apps button on my iPhone, does it tell me my correct balance, if the only thing I can download directly from that button is apps and I apparently can't use that balance?!

Not happy here Apple. Not happy at all. You had the opportunity to convert me from a PC, but I don't like companies who lie to me, and the balance showing up when I click my Apps icon is tantamount to lying. Also, tech help went on to tell me that I should spam Apple's feedback page:

I'm archiving old fic at AO3, so I've been rereading before upload. *facepalm* Why did no one tell me some of my old Alias stuff was so bad?

So maybe it's cheating, but I am removing some of the more flowery, saccharine phrases. I just can't leave them in. It pains me too much.

Also, does this win for the best typo?

My stomach has just bottomed out and is currently residing somewhere in the vicinity of where my eggs should be.

1 story = 3 meters.

If Brad and Nate are strung across two buildings, one 66 stories high, the other 16, what angle will the rope be strung at?

66-16 = 50 stories * 3 = 150 meters high

If the base of the triangle is say 200 meters...

Angle = arctan (opposite / adjacent)

angle = arctan ( 150 / 200)

angle = 37 degrees from the ground.

That's not so bad, is it?

Drive by post...

In case anyone's wondering, perchance-to-dream will be down for a few days while I transfer it to new provider. Anyone have any experience with GoDaddy? They're much cheaper than who I was using. And as a side, Hubby will be so happy I'm supporting Danika Patrick.

And yes, I'm still sick. No more puking, just run of the mill cold. It still sucks.

CB has finally stopped puking. Now when it stops coming out the other end for five minutes, life will be a lot less complicated. And cleaner. :)

My LJ account finally expired, so I've switched to a basic account. (Sadly, I only realized the free virtual gifts too late - so virtual hugs to all of you instead.) So down to six icons--I will not subject anyone to any ads. I was surfing random LJ's the other day and the ads were seriously making me twitch. Same with the ads on their mobile site. Seriously. It's supposed to be for surfing on phones, and they give me ads. No love, LJ. No love.

Speaking of which, I'll be making my main home over on DW, and will be thrilled when they get the reading pages updated that let me read LJ friends without having to make a feed. DW rocks. This should have no impact to anyone on LJ, I'm just saying.

And a small meme since shoshannagold asked. :)

Bullets points!

-GK Fic Mr. Frosty has hit 23,000 words. It's a little mind-boggling, because I'm really, really wondering who the heck wants to read that many words of a GK AU where they're assassins working out of the back of an ice cream truck? Except maybe trolleys who is awesome and way too nice to tell me to shut up, already! *g*

-Speaking of which though...anyone wanna help me translate a scene into Meesh-speak? I've been using the words "dude" and "shit" a lot. But I know there's more to it than that.

-Will be flying to BC in 3 weeks with the kidlets! Whoot! It's very exciting and completely terrifying. I'm sure I should rename CB to CB The Terrible. Not because he's grumpy or spoiled. Just give him ten seconds and I guarantee you he will find some new and exciting way to prove your house isn't fully childproofed. So I'll be flying with Jr and CB, by myself. And the only reason we can afford to do so, is because CB is young enough that he can fly for free because he'll be on my lap. Ha! Oh god. The only good thing is it's a direct flight and so I'm pretty sure they can't pull over and kick us out mid-flight. I'm also pretty sure that CB isn't strong enough to "accidentally" open the emergency exit when I take my eye off of him for a spit second.

-Work continues to be a mixture of aggravation and thrilling excitement.

-And thanks to American Idol, I've been singing "Lookin' like a fool with your pants on the ground" all. Damn. Week. :)

Conversations with my 4 year old

Something that can easily get on my nerves with kid!fic is the words that come out of a kids mouth. Usually, they sound way too baby-ish for me. Jr never really used baby words, and only ever mispronounced a few things...though, to this day, he still says "commerchimials" instead of "commercials."

At most, he put together odd words. Like when he was two and I was saying, "No. Nobody is going to be there", his reply was, "Yes. Yesbody."

Hee.

This was the conversation I had with Jr coming home today:

Me: So what girl do you play with at school?

Jr: Abby. She's a really good writer. I think I should marry her.

Me: So you think she'll make a good wife.

J: Yes. She's really good at working too.

What can I say? He's been obsessed with who he's going to marry since I told him he couldn't marry me.

The only words I'm getting so far from CB is "wall don" or something like that which means "all done". Oh, and "mamamama" when I'm not preparing his food or bottle fast enough. The joy of boys. :)
